All-Purpose Cleaner:
Fill up a spray bottle with equal parts white vinegar and water.  I use this all over my house.  Just make sure to test it in a hidden spot if you're unsure of using it on certain surfaces.  I clean  my sinks, tubs, toilets and tile floors with this.  I've heard that it isn't good to clean marble and wood with it.

Steam Carpet Cleaner Solution:
1.  Fill the soap compartment full of vinegar and then just fill the rest up with water.  Cleans, disinfects and deodorizes leaving no soap scum behind!
I've also read where some people do this and add 1-2 drops of dish soap to the soap compartment.  However, it's the filmy stuff in soap that doesn't rinse out of carpet well and attracts more dirt later on... so use your own discretion here.

***I actually did this a few weeks ago and had amazing results.  My carpet was clean and very soft after using this formula.  I'll definitely do this again!

Homemade Spot Remover:
Make a paste with vinegar and baking soda.  Work paste into the carpet stain and let dry.  When dry vacuum and stain should be gone.  You may need to repeat this more than once!

Homemade Windex:
Here's what you need:

1 Empty Windex Spray Bottle
1/8 Cup (1oz) White Ammonia
1/4 Cup (4oz) Isopropyl Rubbing Alcohol
1 Drop Laundry Detergent
Water - To Fill The Bottle

Homemade Febreeze:
1 empty 32 oz. Febreeze Spray bottle1/8 Cup of Your Favorite Fabric Softener
2 Tablespoons Baking Soda
Hot Tap Water - To Fill the Bottle to the Top
Shake it up in your Spray Bottle and you're ready to go!

***Love this!

Spray Hair Gel:
1 cup hot water
1/2 teaspoon unflavored gelatin
3 drops of your favorite essential oil (optional)
Simply mix the ingredients in an empty spray bottle. Let sit for about 5 minutes, then you are ready to style. You can add a tiny bit more gelatin to make a stronger hold, but too much will clog your bottle. Store your gel in the refrigerator to keep it fresh.

Homemade Hair Detangler Spray:
1 Spray bottle
1 part conditioner (any brand) mixed with 9 parts warm water.  Mix gently before using.  We've had great results with this.

Homemade Baby Wipes:

Homemade Daily Shower Spray Cleaner:

  • cups white vinegar
  • water
  • tablespoons generic dishwasher rinse agent

  1. 1
In a 32 oz bottle add the white vinegar and the generic dishwasher rinse agent. Fill the rest of the bottle with water. use after every shower.

DIY Fire Starters:

Fake it Frugal has a great tutorial over here on how to use your newspaper for you fire starters.

I've also heard that some people save their empty toilet paper rolls and use the lint from the dryer to stuff into the rolls for their fire starters.  Either way you choose is frugal and works great!

*New Spot My Eye Information*

I've had a wonderful year venturing into blogging.  I started just over 1 year ago with Spot My Eye and have enjoyed every moment of it.  I've learned so many new things in the cyber world and have made some great cyber friends.  I've also enjoyed meeting many of you at the classes that I've taught.

Over the last several weeks I've taken the time to think and pray about the future of Spot My Eye.  My teaching partner, Michelle, and I have also talked a few times about the direction that we should head in.  After seeking the Lord, my husband, Michelle and thinking an awful lot about this I've made a decision....

The way things will happen on Spot My Eye will definitely be changing.   I will NO LONGER provide any coupon information on this blog.  That means I will no longer post grocery or daily deals, coupons, etc.  I know that several of you frequent this blog only for that so I do apologize for the inconvenience.  However, running a coupon blog takes A LOT of T-I-M-E and I cherish every bit of time that I have.  I've weighed this heavily and feel like coupon blogs are over-saturated.  I feel that it is no benefit to me or my family for me to continue blogging about things that many other people blog about.  If you still want to find great deals then I encourage you to follow some reputable coupons blogs that I trust.
Frugal Fritzie does a great job covering stores that pertain to our area.
Money Saving Mom
And there are many, many more blogs out there!

I will also NO LONGER provide any coupons classes.  This was my favorite part of my job as I really enjoyed meeting so many of you.  It gave me great pleasure knowing that I was providing a service to so many of you that needed help learning how to provide for your families at a lower cost.  I hope that you all take what you've learned and will help someone else that might need the help.  As a result of this decision...the class that was scheduled for 1/6/12 will be cancelled.  If you were planning on coming to that I apologize and hope that you will be able to learn the ins and outs of couponing from someone else or by reading the reputable blogs posted above.

So what does this mean for the future of Spot My Eye???  Honestly, I don't know.  I'm still praying and thinking about that.  I won't take down this page or the facebook page for now until I know for certain what, if anything, I'm supposed to do with this.

What I do know for certain is that I've enjoyed the last several weeks of having a slower pace on the computer/blogging.  I've enjoyed focusing more on my family and priorities around my own home.  I feel like more of my attention should be focused there.  Sometimes I think we just need to cut down on the clutter...even if that is a job/hobby in order to do what we're called to do...I'm called to be a wife and mom!  Somewhere along the line some of my priorities got out of whack and I'm trying my best to remedy that problem!  :)

I appreciate your understanding in this matter and hope that you all have a great and wonderful new Year!

Happy 1st BLOGIVERSARY!!! and a Giveaway!!!

Today marks my 1 year Blogiversary here at Spot My Eye!!!  It's been a great year and I've learned a lot!  I started out as "deals" blog, but have found as the weeks and months have gone by that my heart isn't just for getting great deals on products, but connecting with other women in all walks of life and about things other than just getting a great bargain.

Blogging has been a lot of fun, but the thing I enjoy the most about this "job" is that I get to meet so many wonderful ladies (and a few men) at my coupon classes.  Those classes started on a whim.  I thought I'd teach a few and then stop, but so far that hasn't happened.  I keep getting emails with requests to come teach another class somewhere and we've had a few speaking engagements.  I figure as long as the requests come in I'll keep it up!

One of the blessings out of teaching classes is bringing my friend, Michelle, on as a partner for teaching with me.  It's been an absolute delight getting to teach with her as we bounce ideas off each other and compliment each other well.  I couldn't have continued teaching without her and just wanted to give a big shout out for her!  :)

As the next year approaches I can't really predict what you'll see here at Spot My Eye!  It seems that the Lord is slowly turning this blog into something else other than coupons.  Don't worry...we'll still post deals and teach classes, but we're leaving our hearts open to what He wants this to be.  This winter Michelle and I are taking some time to pray and re-evaluate the direction that the Lord is taking us.  Hopefully, we'll have clear direction in that area soon so we can start sharing those things with you.

Thank you to all of you that read this blog.  If I didn't have readers, I wouldn't write!  We've grown at a steady pace this past year and hope to grow even more in the next year.  Thank you for sharing this blog with your friends.  Thank you for cheering me on, sharing your thoughts, opinions and giving me feedback when needed.

To celebrate our 1 year blogiversary we're giving away 5 tickets to our next public class to be held January 12, 2012 in Springfield, MO. @ Jefferson Ave. Baptist Church from 6:30 p.m.-9:30 p.m.

5 people will win 2 tickets each (one for you and one for a friend) to attend our next public class for FREE!!! Even if you've come before this will be a great time to brush up and an opportunity for you to bring a friend with you that hasn't learned how to coupon shop yet.

If you're interested in entering this giveaway you can enter by leaving your first name and last intial right here on the blog (not on the facebook page).  Just scroll to the bottom of the post and click "comment" to leave your information.  If you don't want to leave a comment on the blog you can email your first name and last initial to too.  Only ONE entry per person!  We will do a drawing using and the 5 winners will be announced this coming Friday at 10:00 a.m. CST!  Make sure to share this drawing with your friends!

HES Update

I haven't posted a Hypereosinophilic Syndrome (HES) update in awhile so I thought today would be an appropriate day to do that.

This year has been a roller coaster ride with my HES.  The Hematologist that I had been seeing the past 5 years retired and I got a new one in January.  It's always hard to transition to a new doctor, but I've found my new doctor to be knowledgeable about HES as well as a very nice person to work with.

I'm presently taking Hydroxyurea (chemo) to control my white blood counts.  Unfortunately, as the year has progressed the chemo has lowered my blood counts TOO low causing me to be anemic.  Recently, my doctor decided to lower the amount of chemo in order for my blood counts to raise.  About 2 weeks into my new dosage of chemo I started having more HES symptoms.  I won't go into detail on that, but believe me, I knew that my new dosage wasn't going to work out!  So, I called the doctor, they had me come in for another cbc and my blood levels had raised up enough to raise my chemo back to where it had been before.

I know this all sounds horrid to most of you, but this is actually a good thing for me.  I'd rather be tired, then in pain.  So, now I'm about 3 weeks into my raised dose and I'm feeling much better.  Yesterday I went to the doctor again for another cbc and visit.  She has decided to not mess with my chemo dosage anymore.  She believes that we've found the "happy medium" that keeps most things level.

So, that's where we're at for now and I'm fine with that.  I'm feeling pretty good and happy to have some energy back during this time of year.  Of course, this will be an on going process, so we'll continue to keep tabs on my blood levels.

I wrote a testimony and it was published through my church newsletter if any of you want to read it.  It's about some things that the Lord has taught me through all of this.  You can find it right here.
